Oasis Breaks Up -- Again!

I'm coming out of retirement for this.

Yes, it is true, friends and bloggers.  Noel Gallagher has quit the infamous Manchester rock band Oasis, and this time, it's official.

Reports BBC News:

Noel Gallagher has quit rock band Oasis, saying he can no longer work with his brother Liam.

Noel, the group's lead guitarist and chief songwriter, has recently been involved in a series of rows with frontman Liam.

The guitarist said: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.

"People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

The band has had a shaky history, having risen from obscurity to international stardom in two albums only to be plagued by the rocky relationship of the brothers Gallagher.  Rumors of their sibling rivalries and fallings-out behind the scenes have followed them throughout the last ten or more years of their existence--or virtual non-existence if you count the years between 2000 and 2005 when they fell almost completely off the radar.  More recently the band has seen a resurgence in popularity with the release of the album Don't Believe the Truth in 2005, hailed as their best effort since ...Morning Glory some ten years earlier.

Noel's departure came as quite a shock to the audience of the Paris music festival Rock-en-Seine, who were anticipating the band's entrance last night, only to be disappointed.

According to reports, the crowd at first took the stage announcement as a joke, until screens at both sides of the stage showed the message “As a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been canceled.”

Of course, there is much speculation as to whether this is the decisive end of Oasis, but one big fan is keeping her hopes up.  The G brothers call her mum.  Speaking to The Mirror, she commented, "I hope this isn’t the end of Oasis. I don’t think it is. They’re just tired at the end of the tour. They’ve had fights before and got over it.”

I suppose we'll have to wait and see if the band can ride out this next storm.  Meanwhile, I'm letting anyone out there who may still have this page bookmarked know that I am in the process of putting together a new blog!  I'll let you know when that arrives.

Until then...
