Oasis vs. The World, Round 384

I felt guilty because yesterday's post sucked, so I'm going to make time today to give you a nice start to your weekend. And of course, what's a post without a little name-calling?

A while back, as I'm sure you'll remember, the despicable duo of Liam and Noel Gallagher both took hits at some of the UK's finest new acts, including Keane, Bloc Party, Kaiser Chefs, and Franz Ferdinand. And as I also have mentioned before, the backlash has begun. Today we get the pleasure of hearing more nasty words from the dissed kids.

As we already heard sometime last week, Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley called Noel a rather private body part that I will not repeat. Meanwhile, Russell Lissack of Bloc Party explains in a little more dignified manner that he used to buy copies of NME Magazine when he was a young lad to see what kind of sarcastic remarks Liam Gallagher would make that week, but apparently being the butt of the joke isn't as funny. Says Lissack: "
I’m throwing down the gauntlet because we don’t hate Oasis but I want a nice insult."

Kaiser Chefs' Ricky Wilson puts it in typical British musings, commenting about the insult he was delt regarding the fact that he wears make-up. "The only reason I ever wore make-up was to look like him," Wilson explains. "It’s hard to get that dark, swarthy look in your eyes when you’re a ginger." Ouch. That burns.

You might have noticed that bands like Franz Ferdinand, The Libertines, and Scissor Sisters haven't responded to the insults dealt to them. These are the bands that I find the winners of this boxing match. It takes a certain kind of maturity to take that crap with integrity and not stoop to their level.

In other news...

The artist listing for NXNE in Toronto, Canada, was just released, and among the acts are... umm... no one I know? Maybe you should just skip that and go to Austin City Limits instead. Yeah, because The Arcade Fire, Wilco, M83, and others will be there. Just make sure you follow their rules and don't bring any of the following banned items: tents, hard-sided coolers, non-collapsible chairs, large umbrellas, food or beverages except for factory-sealed water bottles, and large chains or spiked jewelry. Hmm, maybe that one's not a good idea either, unless you're not a goth kid and you like to pay exhorbitant amounts of money for your basic human needs.

I recently told you about the new Beulah DVD. Well, check out the trailer here.

Who does David Grohl say was his inspiration for the new Foo Fighters' CD In Your Honor? John Kerry. It's a shame the CD doesn't live up to its expectations or its inspiration. Frankly, this is no presidential album. The single sucks. I heard it on the radio and I couldn't believe that that was what Grohl was saying we would tell our children about. I just love hype.

Caribou (the band formerly known as Manitoba) has their album featured on Music (for Robots) today. Wee!

Wee times two for me knowing more about the bands than the people reviewing them! Indieworkshop has a review of the new split from Mercury Radio Theater and Calibretto (formerly known as Calibretto 13). Both are Christian artists as seen at Cornerstone Music Festival last summer. Calibretto is best known, at least in my opinion, for its song "High Five," a very cheesy, happy-go-lucky, let's be friends song. Mercury Radio Theater is an instrumental punk-like band that plays songs in between short clips from a "radio theater show". It's seriously a great experience, and I love them to bits. One time I saw them wearing space suits. It was hot.
